There are plenty of fun things to do in Ohio and drinking delicately crafted beer is no exception.  There are many well known craft breweries in the state, but here’s six of the top ones that we’ve come across:

Great Lakes Brewing Company

Established in 1986, Great Lakes Brewing was founded by two brothers, Pat and Dan Conway. Many years later, this iconic brewery is one of the top 50 craft breweries in the country in terms of sales according to the Brewers Association. Its year round beers and seasonal brews have reached other states including Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and also Washington, D.C.

 

Hoppin’ Frog Brewery

Located in Akron, Hoppin’ Frog Brewery was established by Fred Karm in 2006. This small, hands-on brewery has been rated as one of the top 100 brewers in the world for 2015 by RateBeer.com. Its award winning brews are available in 19 states and 15 countries.

 

Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery

One of Ohio’s best kept secrets, Jackie O’s has been brewing beers since 2005. This Athens based brewery has been included in Ratebeer.com and Beer Advocate’s top 100 lists. Its core beers include Firefly Amber Ale, Mystic Mama IPA, Chomolungma, Hop Ryot IPA and Razz Wheat.

 

The Brew Kettle

The Brew Kettle is Ohio’s first Brew-On-Premise microbrewery. Since 1999, this multi-awarded brewery is known for excellent brews as well as the place where customers can brew their own style of beer. Apart from its Strongville location, it also opened a second location in Amherst.

 

Fat Head’s Brewery and Saloon

In 2009, Fat Head’s Brewery and Saloon opened in North Olmstead, Ohio. This award winning brewery is known for its signature beers and seasonal brews. Aside from Ohio, Fat Head also has breweries in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Portland, Oregon.

 

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company

Since 1997, Thirsty Dog Brewing has been producing unique brews in Akron, Ohio. This craft brewery has received numerous awards at the Great American Beer Festival and New York International Beer Competition. Some of its popular beers include the 12 Dogs of Christmas, Old Leghumper and 330 Summit IPA.
